Motifs and Graphic Art Design Thanksgiving Turkey Inspired by Gustav Klimt

(I taught this lesson to 5th grade students in 1.5 hours)

Supplies:
White Paper
Orange Paper  (for mounting)
Acrylic Paints
Pencil
Eraser
Paintbrush
Black Sharpie
Colored Pencils
Crayons (use instead of colored pencils and you could shave off 15 minutes)

Step One- Using a ruler draw two lines on your paper.  First line should be 2.5 inches down from top. Second line should be 2.5 inches up from bottom

Step two: Draw the turkey filling up as much space in-between
the lines as you can

Step 3- paint the turkeys head and body.  Using a sharpie trace the feathers.

Step 4- give your turkey a "Saying" Here are some examples for you to choose from

  • Give Thanks
  • Autumn Blessing
  • Be Thankful
  • I’m Thankful
  • Happy Thanksgiving
  • Thankful Celebration

Step 5- Add motifs and outline with a sharpie.  Then color everything in.  The more color you have the better it looks!
